June is Pride Month

Not since June of 2019 has Harbour Landing School been able to celebrate Pride Month and, despite the fact that this year’s celebration will be a little out of the ordinary, we are so grateful to be back in school during the month of June!

We have lots of things planned to bring awareness, show support, and engage in meaningful conversations with our entire school community. Here is a short list of a few of our plans:

Raising of the Pride Flag

Harbour Landing School is proud to fly the rainbow flag the entire month of June!

Painting of the Rainbow Crosswalk

When it was first painted in June of 2018, Harbour Landing School was home to the first rainbow crosswalk in Regina and the first in Canada adjacent to an elementary school. On June 11, a small but dedicated team of staff volunteers will give this iconic symbol of safety a much-needed facelift.

Pride Reads

Every Pride Month, we make it our mission to amplify the voices of 2SLGBTQ+ authors and creators. Our own Ms. Wenger (and maybe some special guests as well) will be hosting a number of Zoom readings featuring some of our favourite picture books.

Unboxing Gender with UR Pride

Andrew from UR Pride, a longtime friend of Harbour Landing School, will become a virtual member of Learning Commons C and help our senior students better understand the important issues surrounding identity, gender diversity, and expression.

Staff Pride Posters

This month, we will expand last year’s initiative of creating beautiful, colourful, anti-homophobic posters to display in our learning places.

Button Design Contest!

Students will get to design a button for this years pride theme. There will be a vote to see which button design becomes our actual button
